Da Lat City has been not merely the capital of Lam Dong province for more than four decades, but also a dynamic engine of local socio-economic development, a center of many regionally impacted socio-economic fields. Therefore, right at the Resolution of the 11th Party Congress of Da Lat City also determined the five-year direction, objectives and tasks (2015 - 2020) to build an inclusive, sustainable and modern Da Lat City.

According to the Master Plan for Da Lat City and its Vicinity to 2030 and further to 2050, Da Lat City will be expanded to nearly 336,000 hectares, 8.5 times that of the current area, and have a population of 700,000-750,000. The current area of Da Lat City is 394.64 square kilometers and will be expanded to 3,354.44 square kilometers, the largest among cities in Vietnam. The expanded area will cover Lac Duong, Duc Trong, Don Duong districts and partly Lam Ha district.

Becoming a satellite town of Da Lat City will benefit Duc Trong district, particularly in transport infrastructure. The district will have stronger magnetism to investors far and wide.
